The national policy on energy for Denmark sees district heating as one of the major contributors to a fossil free heating sector. District heating can be produced with any type of primary energy and it is flexible for change from one source to another.

Today more than 60% of all homes in Denmark are heated by district heating and the aim is to increase it to 75%. It also includes conversion from heating by natural gas to district heating. The former village Himmelev consists of mainly 1,500 one family houses and is today a part of the City of Roskilde east of Copenhagen. District heating will in future replace natural gas as heating form in Himmelev.

Transmission of heat in the area of and around Copenhagen is in the hands of two single-purpose-companies. The company VEKS is responsible for establishing the new transmission line to Himmelev and for the future supply of district heating. Cogeneration of power and heat based on biomass and heat from incineration plants are the major energy sources.

The distribution network is owned and operated by Roskilde Forsyning A/S – a municipal company.

LOGSTOR supply the pipe system for transmission as well as the distribution network and house connections to each single house.

The transmission line is a 7,3 km long system with two single pipes – one for flow and one for return. It builds the connection between the existing network of VEKS from Riso to a heat exchanger station in Himmelev, where Roskilde Forsyning takes over the heat and the distribution.

For the transmission pipe system the E-comp concept in combination with curved pipes was used for design as it reduces the pipe run and the quantity of bends.

The EWJoint with installation by certified LOGSTOR fitters were chosen for jointing. It is a welded joint by use of LOGSTOR Weldmaster. The LOGSTOR Weldmaster controls the welding process and registers all data and the geographic location of each joint as documentation.

The pipes used for the transmission line have built in copper wires for surveillance of the system.

The delivery of transmission pipe system from LOGSTOR in brief:
• 4.600 meter in dimension DN 250
• 9.900 meter in dimension DN 200
• EWJoints
• Installation of EWJoints
• Installation 2012/2013 and commissioning 2013.
